Burlington

In this week’s Standard Press…

A Burlington alderman’s attempt to provide another dam removal option for consideration by his colleagues on the City Council appeared to find little traction Tuesday.

While the other alderman politely received Shad Branen’s presentation, members of the public were not so kind – including a woman who called the plan “insulting.”

The Common Council is poised next month to decide whether to improve the dam and retain Echo Lake or remove the dam and restore the resulting wetland for recreational use.

Branen’s plan, conceived by a trio of volunteer experts, focuses on the restoration of the area once the dam is removed.

His effort to provide another option as the decision on the dam approaches is the top story in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.

The newspaper will be on sale at local retail outlets on Thursday and subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday’s mail.
