Haylofters present ‘Death by Chocolate’

Director Mary Hubbard Nugent said the upcoming Haylofters production of “Death By Chocolate” will have all familiar trappings for fans of murder mysteries plus one endearing trait – it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

“(It’s) a spoof with all the stock characters of typical mysteries,” she said. “The show is very funny and makes fun of itself and all murder mysteries.”

Performances are set for October 21-24 and 28-31 at the Malt House Theater, 109 Main St., Burlington. Friday performances on Oct. 22 and 29 will require masks for all spectators. Masks are optional at all other performances.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances will be at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $18 and may be purchased online at www.thehaylofters.ludus.com or [email protected]. Tickets may also be purchased at the door one hour prior to any performance.

Hubbard Nugent provided the following synopsis of the show:

When people start dropping dead at a health resort, John Stone (played by Dan Barshinge) becomes responsible to find the cause and the perpetrator. As is typical in murder mysteries, he enlists the aide of others, including a mystery writer and amateur detective, Edwina Parlor (Amy Bates).

Eventually they uncover clues that lead to a box of chocolates. The roster of dead at the Meadowbrood Health Resort include the famed chef Edith Chiles (Kris Wilhelmi). The suspects are a long list of characters, including Lady Riverdale (Rhonda Davis), owner of the resort, Ralph Deadwood (Matt Bieneman), a gym instructor, D. Simmering (Maureen Lavin), an aerobics instructor, Anne (Bonnie Rohn), a nurse, Dyslexia (Rose Pinter), Margaret Daniels (Nicole Beard), Alfred (James McClure) and Sweet Pea (Pamela Schroeder).
