Burlington

In this week’s Standard Press…

A major local employer plans to permanently lay off dozens of workers and it has nothing to do with the pandemic.

Nestlé USA has notified state labor officials that it will lay off 34 employees at its Burlington plant stemming from the sale of its U.S. confections business in 2018 to Ferrero.

Nestle’s plan is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.

Copies of the newspaper will be on sale at retail outlets on Thursday and subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday’s mail.

  • DECLINE IN COVID CASES CONTINUES: Racine County’s active COVID-19 caseload continued its downward slide within a seven-day stretch as more residents finished their vaccination series against coronavirus. • SUMMER FUN AWAITS: The Burlington Community Aquatic Center is scheduled to open for the summer season on Saturday without the attendance restrictions that were in place in 2020. Even if the pool is closed due to cool weather Saturday, the front desk will be open to process memberships and distribute members’ key fobs.
  • STRONG DEMAND FOR RVs: Area dealers work to keep up with demand for RVs and travel trailers as supplies for new units become tight.
