Flight for Life medical transport service plans to be up and running from a new helicopter base at the Burlington Municipal Airport by late September, according to officials with the organization.

The Burlington Common Council on Tuesday unanimously approved Flight for Life’s proposal, clearing the way for the plan.

Officials with Flight for Life and Burlington Mayor Jeannie Hefty on Wednesday touted the locally based service as potentially saving lives as transport times for critically injured trauma patients are reduced. Flight for Life currently operates out of a single base in Waukesha.

Hefty said the local base provides enhanced public safety, which makes the area more attractive to potential residents.

See the Sept. 9 edition of the Burlington Standard Press for complete coverage of the city’s decision and Flight for Life’s plans.
