A rash of garage and car break-ins on Stonewall Court, Indian Bend Road and Travelers Run were reported to city police Oct. 11.

According to records, no less than seven reports came in that day regarding burglaries of cars or garages on those streets.

Among the items taken from vehicles in the various break-ins were change from one car, iPods, laptops, a wallet, money, cell phones and two GPS systems.

The reports indicated that garages were broken into, as well as unlocked vehicles and vehicles in the garages.

Police Chief Peter Nimmer said his department had a suspect in custody regarding the incidents, and some of the stolen property had been recovered.

“We’re continuing to try and locate the remaining property,” Nimmer said. “We served a search warrant on the subject’s residence Friday, and we recovered some of the stolen property then.

“We’re continuing to investigate further.”

The suspect was transported to Racine County Jail Tuesday, and charges from the district attorney’s office are pending.

Nimmer reminded all residents to lock cars – regardless of whether vehicles are in a garage or not – as well as doors. A reminder was also placed on the City of Burlington’s website at www.burlington-wi.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=51.

“Lock your doors and vehicles so you don’t become a victim of someone trying to take advantage of others,” Nimmer said.
