Property tax payments due

County offers multiple ways to pay final installment

The second and final payment for 2020 property tax bills in Racine County is due Saturday, July 31.

Property owners are required to pay the first installment by Jan. 31 and the second by July 31.

Under state law, interest and penalty charges are 1.5% on the unpaid principal per month going back to Feb. 1, which comes to 10.5% in August for 2020 taxes, according to county officials.

There are several options for paying property taxes, according to the Treasurer’s Office.

They include:

  • Pay in person at 730 Wisconsin Ave., Racine, WI 53403. Office hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 24-hour County Treasurer drop box: Located on the east side of the Racine County Courthouse next to the U.S. Postal Service box.
  • Pay by credit card or electronic check by calling 800-272-9829 or use ACI payment website: www.officialpayments.com. There is a 2.75% fee for credit and debit card payments and a flat fee of $2.75 for electronic check payments.

Racine County property who are mailing in their second installment payments should include the bottom tab of their notice with their payment. Checks should be made out for the exact amount due and include the parcel number the payment is for.

City of Racine property owners should pay the final installment of their 2020 taxes to the City of Racine Treasurer.

Beware of scams

According to the Treasurer’s Office, property owners should also be aware of scam attempts. According to officials, there is a tax mail scam that has scammers blending state Department of Revenue judgments with county property tax collection efforts.

“Official notices and letters from the Racine County Treasurer include the Racine County seal, the office email and phone number, and relevant parcel numbers,” county Treasurer Jeff Latus said. “The Racine County Treasurer’s Office does not utilize a 1-800 number or ask for personal banking or financially sensitive information.”
