Chiwaukee Tri-County Academy Aug. 2-6 in Burlington
Area teachers invited to participate
Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois are invited to participate in Chiwaukee Tri-County Academy held at the Burlington Learning Campus from Aug. 2-6.

Sponsored by school districts in the tri-county (Walworth, Kenosha and Racine) area, the academy is one of nine academies held around the state during the summer.

The event includes keynote speakers, hands-on courses and a half-day business tour. Courses are available in the subject areas of: administration, math, professional development, reading and language arts, science and technology. The newest theories will be discussed and ideas about how to move them into practice will be shared by experienced teacher presenters.




Leaders for Innovation, Leadership for Improvement will be the course offering in administration. Math classes will include: Best Practice Math: K-5; Integration of Technology In Middle School and high School Mathematics. Professional Development courses will be: Career Pathways: Building Plans of Study and Adding Value to Your Program; Build Your Own Curriculum to Horizontally and Vertically Align Your School's Curriculum; Autism - Across the Special Education Spectrum; Team Teaching in an Inclusion Classroom.

Reading and language art classes are: Read: Best Practices in Primary Reading Classrooms; and Read: Reading in the Content Area Grades 4-8. Let's Get Physical is the Science offering. In Technology, participants may choose from: Promethean Boards Technology Integration: Intermediate and Introductory Levels; Smartboards Technology Integration: Intermediate and Introductory Levels; Online Learning: Creating A Quality Learning Environment.

The Academy provides state-of-the-art professional development for teachers designed to assist Wisconsin teachers in leading students to increasingly higher achievement. Open to public and private elementary, middle and high school teachers, courses are designed for both inexperienced and seasoned instructors. An increased understanding of concepts presented through hands-on, problem-solving, cooperative learning, application and demonstration activities that encourage integration of math, science and technology education.

Participants will have many opportunities to share ideas with other teachers and to enhance their present teaching practices. Attention will be given to state and national standards. Participants may earn undergraduate of graduate-level credit through UW-Parkside.
