The Burlington Frank Roth All-Stars are headed back to the state championship for the third year in a row, defeating the Burlington Ginger Beaumont All-Stars Monday night.
The District 6 10-11-year-old tournament final was postponed because of the weather, and the two Burlington teams were actually scheduled to play Saturday in Burlington Little League's All-Star day.
However, the players decided to let the parents play rather than face off two times in three days.
The Frank Roth squad made it to the finals by defeating Oak Creek National and Franklin National, while the Beaumont squad beat Lakeland and the Franklin American squad.
The Ginger Beaumont squad started the game fast, scoring five runs in the first with four hits, a hit batter and two walks. That squad went on to win 11-5, sending the Frank Roth team into the consolation bracket.
The Frank Roth All-Stars got an 8-5 victory over Lakeland to stay alive in the tournament, then downed Beaumont 14-1 - with 3-for-3 games from Ben Golan and Aaron Mutter - to set up Monday's all-or-nothing contest.
The Frank Roth squad won the pitcher duel 4-1, with Mutter pitching a complete-game one-hitter. Beaumont's Jacob Lindemann spread out eight hits in the game.
Ben Golon finished the game with two hits and two RBI for Frank Roth, while Nick Klug also had two hits. Aaron Sturdevant picked up an RBI in the contest, and Golon praised the base-running from his squad.
"Pretty exciting," said Don Golon, who added that five players on his team are headed to a Little League state tournament for the third year in a row.
Those players are Ben Golon, Aaron Sturdevant, Aaron Mutter, Reed Moen and Ian Aldrich. The five were 9-10-year-old champs twice, and now are part of the Majors squad.
"We are very talented," Golon said. "We are loaded with pitching, defense and hitting. This team is really good."
The state tournament runs Aug. 4-10 in Antigo. Golon's squad made the semifinals at state the first time, but missed out last year.
Now, the coach says his team is in it to win it.
"Our attitude is very excited," Golon said. "We played very good competition in the district.
"We're preparing hard to play well at the next level."
The Burlington Little League 12-year-old All-Stars were competing in West Bend at their state tournament this week. Because of rain delays, the tournament was not completed before press deadline.
