The Burlington Rotary Barons split a doubleheader with the Genessee Rebels Sunday, winning the first game 6-2 but losing the second game 5-3.
The Barons are now 11-4 in the Land 'O Lakes Southwest Division, in tie for second with East Troy and Rome. The Barons are 12-10 overall.
"The first game, we did a great job," said manager Bud Milroy about the doubleheader. "The second game, we had one bad inning."
Burlington got off to a strong start in the first game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.
After Mike Porcaro grounded out to start the game, Justin Molle hit a single to left. Jon Capasso then reached on a walk.
Matt Kuchenbecker then had a single to load the bases, and Ryan Hoffman brought in Molle and Capasso on a fielder's choice.
Kuchenbecker would later score on a wild pitch, and Kyle Reich batted in Hoffman on a ground out.
The Barons added two more insurance runs in the fourth before Genessee scored two in the top of the sixth to account for the final score.
Karl Richter got the win on the mound, going the complete game (seven innings due to the doubleheader). He struck out four and walked just one, and he allowed two earned runs.
In the second game, the Barons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but Genessee scored five in the fourth on three hits, one error and two walks.
Only one of the hits got out of the infield.
Hoffman took the loss, going seven innings with three walks, two strikeouts and three earned runs.
On July 13, the Barons hosted the Milwaukee Angels, winning 5-2.
Milwaukee led 2-0 before Kuchenbecker singled in Anthony Porcaro in the third.
The Barons added three more runs in the seventh, with Molle leading off with a single and Reich following him on base after getting hit by a pitch.
After Drew Pearson sacrified the runners over, Anthony Porcaro and Mike Porcaro had back-to-back singles.
Chad Langley picked up in the win in relief of Joe Milroy. Langley pitched the final 3-2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.
